The weight function method for the determination of bridging stresses in coarse‐grained Al 2 O 3 from displacement data during crack extension is outlined in detail. A special strategy for the evaluation of the integral equation between stresses and displacements is discussed. The procedure is applied to displacement measurements available in the literature. A monotonically decreasing bridging stress is found with increasing crack opening displacement.
