The structure of Na‐ and Ca‐β″‐Al 2 O 3 coatings on α‐Al 2 O 3 single‐crystal platelets has been studied by optical and electron microscopy and X‐ray and electron diffraction. The growth features and potential interface weakening effects of the modified platelets in dispersed‐particle reinforced composites are discussed.
