Formation of N‐phase and Phase Relationships in MgO–Si 2 N 2 O–Al 2 O 3 System

Formation of N‐phase in the system Mg,Si,Al/N,O was studied. Its composition was confirmed to be MgAl 2 Si 4 O 6 N 4 (2Si 2 N 2 OMgAl 2 O 4 ). Subsolidus phase relationships in the MgO–Si 2 N 2 O‐Al 2 O 3 system were determined. The results are discussed by comparing with two similar systems, CaO‐and Y 2 O 3 –Si 2 N 2 O–Al 2 O 3 .
