The diameter dependence of the refractive index of as‐formed glass fibers is examined. It is shown that the measured results on fibers of a soda–lime–silica glass can be satisfactorily explained by combining three factors: the diameter dependence of the cooling rate, the cooling rate dependence of the fictive temperature, and the dependence of glass properties on its fictive temperature.
