The phase composition of fine ZrO 2 and ZrO─Y 2 O 3 powders prepared by the process of spray pyrolysis was detected using XRD. An interesting phenomenon has been observed. In this paper, the influence of the temperature and carrier gas flux on the phase composition of as‐prepared powders is described. The formation and transformation mechanisms of the powder phase in the process are also discussed.
