The strength of hemispheric ceramic domes was measured in a biaxial flexure test using disklike circular pieces removed with a core drill. Yttria and lanthana‐doped yttria dome cores exhibit approximately 60% of the strength predicted from similarly fabricated flat disks. Measured strengths agree with those predicted from observed fracture‐initiating defects.
