Al 2 TiO 5 formation in Al 2 O 3 /TiO 2 multilayer composites obtained by slip casting has been studied in the temperature interval ranging from 1200° to 1450°C. It has been found that nucleation plays a fundamental role in Al 2 TiO 5 formation. Furthermore, it has been observed that initial growth of Al 2 TiO 5 is substantially enhanced when in contact with TiO 2 .
