Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy was used to test the presence of Ti 3+ in several novel compounds also containing Ti 4+ . The results obtained confirmed the presence of Ti 3+ , and indicated that differences in the EPR spectral lines of Ti 3+ can make differentiation easier between compounds which have X‐ray diffraction (XRD) patterns that are not markedly different.
