The relationship between phosphate and vanadate capacites and optical basicity, Λ, are used in order to settle the optical basicity of TiO 2 . Phosphate and vanadate capacity data indicate that the optical basicity of TiO 2 is 0.55. The validity of this value is supported by the good agreement with the value derived from Pauling electronegativity.
