Differential thermal analysis (DTA), powder X‐ray diffraction (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were carried out to investigate the origin of the partial melting which is closely related to the formation of the 110 K superconducting phase in the Bi‐Pb‐Sr‐Ca‐Cu‐O system. The occurrence of a liquid phase in the presence of the Bi 2 Sr 2 Ca‐Cu 2 O y , Ca 2 PbO 4 , and CuO phases was demonstrated. Large grain growth and promotion of the 223 phase formation resulting from the reactive liquid‐phase‐aided sintering were also observed.
