Mechanical and dielectric strength distributions were studied for variously surface‐finished TiO 2 ceramics. Roughly finished specimens showed a small Weibull modulus for both kinds of failures, and clear analogies between mechanical and dielectric strength distributions were found in both rough‐and fine‐surface specimens. The validity of the dielectric strength measuring method as an alternative method to evaluate the structural reliability of brittle ceramics is discussed.
