A viscoelastic analysis for concentric cylinders is performed for the case where an external axial load is applied. The results are applicable to glass‐to‐metal seals and as a representation for unidirectional composites. The analysis is for a general temperature and load history, and includes the important phenomenon of structural relaxation. A sample calculation is presented to illustrate the method.
