A highly oriented Ba 2 YCu 3 O 7 ceramic disk was prepared with the c axis perpendicular to the flat faces. The use of high pressures during cold‐pressing tends to enhance the orientation of the fired sample. A nitric acid procedure for forming the material produces a powder which orients most readily. Magnetic measurements show that the critical current is larger in the layers perpendicular to the pressing direction.
