A methodology is described for determining the viscosity of viscoelastic solids. A three‐parameter model consisting of two springs and one dashpot is constructed to represent the viscoelastic material. With this model, the viscosity can be determined from the experimental stress‐time curve generated from short‐term loading at a constant strain rate, followed by holding the total strain. The feasibility of this model to represent viscoelastic ceramics is also addressed.
