This paper reports a numerical methodology to simulate the effect of air bubblers on glass‐melt circulation and heat transfer in a glass‐melting tank. Considering the high velocity and short residence time of the rising air bubbles, heat transfer and mass transfer between air bubbles and the glass melt are neglected. Using existing empirical relations, the momentum exchange between a stream of air bubbles and the glass melt is calculated by considering bubble shape, size, and relative velocity and the thermophysical properties of the air and glass melt. Representative results of three‐dimensional numerical simulations for flow and heat transfer with and without air bubblers are presented for a container‐glass‐melting tank. The results show a significant effect of air bubblers on glass circulation patterns and the enhancement of heat transfer from the combustion space to the molten glass and from the molten glass to the batch.
