The extraction of acid‐soluble oxide constituents in E‐glass fibers was studied as a function of acid strength and time. Leaching was found to be diffusion controlled. Surface area, moisture adsorption, and weight loss measurements show that the porous structure that results on leaching is controlled by acid strength and time. Polymerization occurring on leaching and aging accounts for structural changes in the porous product.
