Contact Damage in Hot‐Pressed and Chemically‐Vapor‐Deposited Zinc Sulfide

Hot‐pressed zinc sulfide was indented by spherical indenters under static and impact loading. The static and impact damage characteristics were compared with earlier results for chemically‐vapor‐deposited (CVD) zinc sulfide, showing that hot‐pressed zinc sulfide is less resistant to contact damage than CVD zinc sulfide.
