Oxygen self‐difusion coefficients in two MgQ single crystals were determined by un isotope exchange technique at 1300° to 1750°C using chemically polished samples. There is a sharp breuk in the temperature dependence at 1500°C. The high‐temperature regime is represented by D = 6.76 exp [‐536 (kj/mol)/RT] cm 2 /s, indicating an impurity‐insensitive diffusion mechanism. Extrinsic diffusion in the low‐temperature regime was interpreted to be structure‐sensitive.
