The conditions for dynamical similarity between an electric glassmelting furnace and its physical model are discussed. It is suggested that the most critical features which have to be matched are the total energy balance for the furnace melting end, the ratio of the throughput to the circulation velocity of the glassmelt, and the temperature variation of the viscosity and electrical conductivity of the melt. Criteria based on these factors are proposed and details of the calculation of parameters needed to design a physical model are given.
