The system Eu 2 O 3 ‐ZrO 2 was studied, concentrating attention on the region 0 to 33 mol% ZrO 2 , which is of interest for fast‐reactor neutron absorber applications. The addition of ∼20% ZrO 2 to Eu 2 O 3 resulted in stable cubic phases. Results are compared for coprecipitated powders and pellets prepared from mechanically mixed powders fired at 1300°C and 1S50°C. The thermal stability of cubic structures at 600°C and 800°C for 8000 h was also demonstrated.
