The preparation of metal phosphates by metathesis reaction of BPO 4 with metal oxides and fluorides has been demonstrated to occur from 600° to 1000°C. Such reactions can be advantageously used in converting refractory metal oxides (such as those present in nuclear wastes) to phosphates.
