The effects of alkali and alkali‐earth chloride additives on the sintering of ZnS powder compacts in H 2 S have been examined. BaCl 2 was found to promote the sintering of ZnS. BaCl 2 reacts with ZnS to form Ba 2 ZnS 3 , which acts as a flux for sintering.
