The vibrutional characteristics of fluorozirconate and fluorohafnate glasses have been determined from ir reflectivity and Raman scattering. Fluorohafnate‐based glasses possess lower ir oscillator strengths than fluorozirconate glasses, and their fundamental absorption peaks are shifted to a lower frequency. The dominant Raman peaks, however, are nearly identical for both glasses.
