Sintering studies of Si 3 N4‐Y 2 O3/Al 2 O 3 compositions indicated that increased densification could be produced using a dual N 2 pressure process. RT modulus of rupture values and microstructures were found to be similar to hot‐pressed material. The technique should be adaptable to complex shaped Si 3 N 4 bodies where high density and strength are required .
