A model describing cation distribution and defect concentrations in iron‐aluminate spinels is presented. Cation distribution equilibrium constants are derived from phase‐boundary data at 1500° and 1280°C. Estimations of the defect concentrations for the entire solid solution are possible using defect equilibrium constants for Fe 3 O 4 .
