The structure and properties of laboratory‐made portland cement clinkers doped with different amounts of CaF 2 and fired at different temperatures were studied. The phase C 3 A was gradually replaced by C 11 A 7 °CaF 2 and the β ‐to‐γ polymorphic transition was enhanced due to CaF 2 doping. In cements made from CaF 2 ‐doped clinkers, the hydration of C 3 S and β ‐C 2 S was retarded. The intrinsic properties of the hydration products were altered, resulting in decreased compressive strength at equal degrees of hydration. Both effects depended on the firing temperature of the clinker.
