Infrared spectra of superionic conducting glasses in the system AgI‐Ag 2 O‐GeO 2 were compared with crystalline (hexagonal and tetragonal forms) and glassy GeO 2 . It was found that glasses with the mole ratio Ag 2 O/GeO 2 = l are almost entirely composed of octahedral GeO 6 groups. As the ratio deviates from unity, the content (which is probably low) of the tetrahedral GeO 4 groups increases. The composition dependence of glass transition temperatures is explained on the basis of this structural evidence.
