The phase relations in the system HfO 2 ‐Sm 2 O 3 were studied by high‐temperature and room‐temperature X‐ray diffraction. The areas of existence of the solid solutions based on HfO 2 , Sm 2 Hf 2 O 7 , and Sm 2 O 3 were determined using the lattice parameter method. Also, the influence of small additions of Sm 2 O 3 on the monoclinic‐tetragonal transformation temperature of hafnia was studied. A tentative phase diagram is proposed.
