THE existence of a compound with the formula Sr 6 Si 2 Al 18 O 37 was reported by Dear. 1 The unindexed powder diffraction pattern of this compound is listed as ASTM No. 10–25. In this note we present evidence that the composition of this phase is Sr 3 SiAl 10 O 20 rather than Sr 6 Si 2 Al 18 O 37 . We report the indexed powder diffraction pattern and give some luminescence data for activation with Ce 3+ . Cell parameters of other new compounds with a structure related to that
