Raman spectra of glasses, prepared from a mixture of K 2 CO 3 and SiO 2 , give evidence for the presence of almost isolated planar CO 3 2‐ ions, dissolved in the glass. It appears that measurement of the Raman spectra is a useful nondestructive method for the determination of the CO 3 2‐ concentration in glasses.
