The errors associated with subcritical crack propagation experiments are discussed with respect to both the usual equation for estimating time to failure and another time‐to‐failure equation which uses an exponential relation for region I data. Data obtained on soda‐lime silicate glass were used to illustrate the large differences in estimated times to failure and the large coefficients of variation in the estimates of time to failure when the relations are extrapolated past the experimentally obtained data points
