The enthalpies of solution in molten 2PbO·B 2 O 3 at 690°±2°C of cordierite, Mg 2 Al 4 Si 5 O 18 , and of a glass of cordierite composition were determined. From these data, the enthalpy of formation of cordierite from the component oxides is ‐16.1±1.7 kcal/mol and its heat of fusion +54.0±2.0 kcal/mol.
