Microindentation hardness measurements on Na 2 O‐CaO‐SiO 2 and Na 2 O‐Al 2 O 3 ‐SiO 2 glasses showed that Knoop hardness numbers are linearly related to oxide compositions expressed in mole fraction. Evaluations of the data indicate that these linear relations are unique for each of the primary crystallization phase fields of the glasses studied.
