Reactions between slag and porous ceramic bodies in the CaO‐SiO 2 ‐Al 2 O 3 system at 1450°C were investigated. Varying rates of slag absorption and differences in the manner of precipitation of anorthite (CaAl 2 Si 2 O 8 ) were observed. The results are rationalized in terms of mass transport in the liquid phase. Local viscosities of melts are particularly important in the interpretation.
