A linear relation is established between the cosine of the contact angle and the temperature of a liquid metal sessile drop resting on a ceramic substrate. This relation is demonstrated for many liquid metal/ceramic systems. The work of adhesion and the effects of surface roughness, porosity, chemical reactions, and structural transformations in the substrate surface are also discussed.
