A study of the rates at which fine particles can be vibratorily infiltrated into a column matrix of packed coarser particles is reported. Infiltration and compaction rates of angular tetra‐hedra, rounded tetrahedra, and spheres were compared. The dependence of infiltration rate on ratio of the sizes of matrix to infiltrating particles and the interparticle void fraction in the matrix were found. The influence of acceleration and frequency of vibration on infiltration rate was also determined.
