Concentration distributions of potassium and strontium were measured with the electron probe after inter diffusion in the system K 2 O‐SrO‐SiO 2 at 750° C for periods of 4 to 14 hr. The effective binary diffusion coefficients for multicomponent diffusion determined for K 2 O and SrO behaved in accordance with Fick's laws. The utility and limitation of these coefficients to describe inter diffusion in condensed multicomponent systems are discussed.
