The Burgers vectors of several nonbasal dislocations in sintered α‐Al 2 O 3 were determined from diffraction contrast experiments in the electron microscope. They are consistently of the type ⅓. This is also likely to be the Burgers vector for prismatic slip in α‐Al 2 O 3 . It has been generally accepted that is the Burgers vector for prismatic slip, but the evidence for this is not conclusive.
