A technique is described for the preparation of optically transparent crystals of CaO.2Al 2 O 3 , 12CaO.7Al 2 O 3 , and 3Y 2 O 3 .5Al 2 O 3 . The main difficulties in obtaining optically transparent crystals of these materials by direct Czochralski growth from the component oxides arise from deviations in molar composition.
