Oxygen penetration in calcium fluoride single crystals was determined along the [111], [110], and [112] directions by the micrographic method. The penetration depths were equal in all directions. The activation energy for the process was 46 kcal per mole. It is suggested that the penetration may be limited by the intrinsic diffusion rate of oxygen.
