A general theory for the calculation of the stresses in quenched glass was given by the writer in an earlier paper. The method evolved is applied in the present paper to the particular case of a nonuniformly quenched disk. It is shown that it is possible to stipulate initial conditions and the manner of quenching in such a way that the intensity of toughening varies in the disk as a function of the radius without inducing a secondary radial stress system. The quenching parameter C , introduced in another paper by the writer is used in characterizing the manner of thermal solidification of the disk.
