Phase Relations in Some Halide Systems

Phase relations in the systems LiF‐CdCl 2 , CdF 2 ‐CdCl 2 , NaF‐CdCl 2 , NaCl‐CdCl 2 , and NaCl‐CdF 2 were studied by the cooling‐curve technique with visual observations. The systems LiF‐CdCl 2 and CdF 2 ‐CdCl 2 showed simple binary eutectics. The compounds NaFCdCl 2 and 2NaClCdCl 2 were observed in the systems NaF‐CdCl 2 and NaCl‐CdCU respectively. It was found that there was reaction between the end members in the system NaCl‐CdF 2 to give NaF and CdCl 2 , which then formed the compound NaF.CdCl 2 .
