The dissociation of carbon monoxide in contact with iron oxide has been studied; the temperature range of the reaction has been determined; the composition and structure of the catalyst has been established; and factors inhibiting or accelerating the rate of reaction are discussed. Some related observations on used blast‐furnace fire‐clay linings are included.
