Talcs exhibit considerable variation in texture and in chemical analyses. These variations are explored on the basis of phase, field, and atomic structure considerations with the aid of chemical, X‐ray, and dserential thermal analyses. It is proposed that this complexity is accounted for primarily on the basis of the existence of solid solutions of the layer or group type.
