The catenary curve was analyzed to find the dimensions at which a self‐supporting arch can be obtained. For kiln construction, a height‐to‐base ratio of 1 to 1 was found to be advisable. Detailed construction data are given for a kiln with a 0.5‐cu. ft. chamber. A parallel heating element system with a low‐voltage, high‐ampere power circuit is described and the advantages of the arrangement are noted. Excellent temperature uniformity is reported, and 1400°C. can be attained at a rate of 65°C. per hour with 3‐kw. power input. An itemized cost of construction is also given.
