It is known that for rectangular bars corrections are necessary for the simple modulus of rupture farmula to obtain true cross‐bending strengths when the ratio of span to bar depth is less than about 10:1. The experiments described in this note develop empirical data on this subject for cylindrical rods of low span‐to‐diameter ratios.
