The changes of the refractive index of the borosilicate crown BSC–2 ( n D = 1.517, v = 64.5) with temperature and time were determined by the quenching method. From these findings and the equations concerning temperature distribution and strain release in glass by Adams and Williamson’were derived practical annealing schedules to predetermined index homogeneity for various thicknesses of glass. The data for this particular glass are compared graphically with similar and different types of glasses studied by other investigators.
