The thermal expansion coefficients of five Lithia‐alumina‐silica glasses ranging in silica content from a 1:1:2 molecular ratio to a 1:1:10 ratio were found to vary from 76.0 × 10 –7 cm./cm./°C. for the low‐silica glass to 39.3 × 10 –7 cm./cm./°C. for the high‐silica composition in the interval 30° to 500°C. The relation of the data to the practical formulation of porcelain glazes is discussed.
