A bstract A new design for a cross‐breaking machine is described. The machine is well adapted for breaking bars of 1‐in. cross section in the ranges of strength encountered in both un‐fired and fired bars of ceramic compositions. The loading is practically vibrationless. The machine has proved a time saver for testing materials such as raw clay bars.
