A bstract Approximate equations, published by Ghering and Knight and by Elliott, for the calculation of the change in density of a glass resulting from small changes in composition are discussed. The corresponding more exact equations, deduced from fundamental relationships previously published and tested by the authors, are presented. They are but slightly more complicated than the approximate equations.
